Business Description

First starting out as a dry-cleaning business in the 1960s, a garden section was developed onsite and in 1980 the Whyalla Orchid Nursey began trading. As it grew, the business also went through some name changes until it became the Whyalla Garden Centre.

The Whyalla Garden Centre is part of the Garden Centres of SA, a group of independently and locally owned garden centres in South Australia, both rural and metropolitan, which provides the business with competitive buying power, and a wealth of information on current garden trends and challenges within the South Australian Gardening Industry.

The business comprises of an outdoor and indoor plant nursery, palms centre, plus sells a variety of lawns, along with retail items such as pots, soil, fertilisers, indoor furniture, and a gift shop with a wide range of items, attracting customers across the Upper Spencer Gulf and Eastern Eyre Peninsula.

The Whyalla Garden Centre has received many awards over the years including most recently the Whyalla Business & Tourism ‘Business of the Year 2021’, the Chamber of Commerce Whyalla ‘Business Icon Award 2014’, and the 1999 Plants Plus ‘Garden Centre of the Year’.
